Scope and Content Currie Brig (Bridge), Currie, Edinburgh Currie lies to the west of Juniper Green in the valley of the Water of Leith where the river flows between steep banks. The village developed as a farming and milling community around an ancient crossing of the river beside the old route to Lanark. Currie Brig, first recorded in historical records in 1599, is reputed to have stood for 600 years. This single span stone bridge was the ancient access to the church as well as the route across the river to one of the passes through the Pentland Hills. The bridge linked the two parts of the village, the church, manse, school, schoolhouse and farms on the south side with the farms on the north bank and the old Lanark Road.
