Scope and Content Detail of carved stone panel at Inveraray Parish Church, Inveraray, Argyll and Bute The site for Inveraray Parish Church was selected as early as 1747, although it was not erected until 1795-1802. Robert Mylne (1733-1814), the architect, designed the double-fronted church and it was built for a total cost of £1,685. This damaged stone panel is in the church hall. Found in 1960, in a workyard at Newton, Inveraray, it bears a well-cut monogram of the letters 'A C M D' and is dated 1634. The upper third of the panel is plain except for the letter C above the monogram. The initials are those of Archibald Campbell, later Marquis of Argyll, and Margaret Douglas whom he had married in 1626. The stone presumably came from old Inveraray Castle which dated to the 15th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
