Scope and Content Aerial view of Taynish House and steading, Argyll and Bute Taynish was the seat of the Macnortheill family and the core of the existing Taynish House is a laird's house, probably built in the first half of the 18th century. In 1780 the estate was acquired by Sir Archibald Campbell and the house was extended. Taynish House is at the top left. There is a walled garden to the left of the house, and in the centre are the farm buildings with the great barn to the right. To the right of the farm buildings is an octagonal building, formerly the dairy. The rectangular garden probably dates to the late 18th century. The garden wall is up to 3m in height and built of lime-mortared masonry. According to 18th-century maps of the area, there were many trees planted around the house to provide shelter.
