Scope and Content View of fireplace in ground floor of west wing at Ardlamont House, Argyll and Bute Ardlamont was the principal residence of the Lamonts of Lamont from about 1664. In 1818 Major-General John Lamont decided, despite inherited debts, to rebuild the house 'fit for my family on the most limited and frugal plan'. The interior of the west wing has been greatly altered. In 1970 a segmental-arched kitchen fireplace was identified in the north gable wall. The outer face of the arch had been cut back. There was a salt-box in the east jamb of the fireplace. The partly-blocked opening to the right of the fireplace may originally have been an oven recess. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
