Scope and Content Toward Lighthouse, Argyll This lighthouse was built in 1812 by the Cumray Lighthouse Trust. With its other light on the Small Cumbrae it lit the main approach to the harbours on the upper Firth of Clyde. It was later taken over by the Clyde Lighthouses Trust. This view shows the lighthouse on the left, with its unusual rectangular-paned lantern, and the former foghorn tower on the right, with its engine-room behind. The horn of the foghorn has been removed. The Clyde Lighthouses Trust was absorbed into the Clyde Port Authority when it was created in 1966, and the Toward light is now managed by its privatised successor, Clydeport.
