Perth, City Mills, Granary General View

SC 553386

Description Perth, City Mills, Granary General View

Date 1/8/1978

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 553386

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Granary, Upper City Mills, Perth, Perthshire This is a four-storey and attic building, close to both the upper and lower City Mills, and presumably built to store grain to be ground in these mills. This view shows the building from the south east, showing the external stair tower on the south side of the building, giving unobstructed storage areas on each floor, an unusual feature. Note the house and office to the right. The City Mills operated into the 1960s, but by 1978 the upper mills had been converted to a hotel, and the lower mills, though intact, were disused, as was this granary. Subsequently the granary was converted to flats by the National Trust for Scotland. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
