Date 1/8/1978

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 553385

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Former Upper City Mills, Perth, Perthshire This is a three-storey and attic building on a U-plan, formerly driven by two large internal low-breast waterwheels, taking water from the city lade. It was converted into the City Mills Hotel in the early 1970s, retaining the wheels as features. This view shows the building from the north west, showing the discreet manner in which the external conversion of the building had been undertaken. The wall on the left was part of the Lower City Mills. The City Mills operated into the 1960s. In 1978 the lower mills, though intact, were disused, as was an associated granary. Subsequently the granary was converted to flats, and the lower mills into a visitor centre. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
