Scope and Content The Stables, Pollok House, Pollok Park, Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow This photograph shows the approach to the stable block. The wall to the left of the path is the boundary of the walled garden. The arched entrance dates from the 17th century. Fragments dating from the 15th century are said to be built into the eastern corner of the stables, where the building meets the garden wall. The stables are still in use today, and some of Glasgow City Council's Clydesdale horses are kept here. The grounds of Pollok Park are used for occasional displays of the horses in their full livery. The stable block serving Pollok House is situated to the south-east of the house. Most of the building dates from the 17th to 19th centuries, but it also incorporates older architectural features, as a former residence of the Maxwell family, the Laighe Castle, once stood here.
