Scope and Content Redford House, Redford Road, Colinton, Edinburgh Redford House, originally the late 17th-century house of James, Lord Redford, is now a strung-out building of many different periods. Its rather modest design has enabled it to adapt easily to change, and it has now been subdivided into flats. The house, which has had quite a number of later additions, is a white-harled building with a roughly symmetrical frontage and a large curved centrepiece. It stands in a shallow forecourt surrounded by extensive grounds. Redford House was built for the eldest son of Sir James Foulis, Lord Colinton of Colinton Castle, who was 'raised to the bench' in 1674 and took the title, Lord Reidford (Redford).
