Scope and Content Recumbent stone circle at Sunhoney, Echt, Aberdeenshire This fine example of a recumbent stone circle stands in a clump of trees on the low shoulder of a hill. The recumbent itself is of a grey granite compared to the reddish granite of the other stones. This view shows the recumbent and the two flanking stones. A further nine stones make up the circle. The recumbent, which is now broken, has 31 cup-marks on it. Traces of a low ring-cairn can still be seen inside the circle. The circle was excavated by Charles Elphinstone Dalrymple in 1865. Within the ring-cairn he found cremated bone and burnt stones. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
