Scope and Content The Offertory House and manse, St Cuthbert's Parish Church, Colinton, Edinburgh St Cuthbert's Parish Church stands on the north side of the bridge across the Water of Leith in the elbow of the river at Colinton village. The present building dates from 1908, but there has been a church on or near this site for over 900 years. The Offertory House, probably dating from the mid-18th century, stands at the entry to the churchyard, and is built into the churchyard wall. It was repaired (along with the wall) in 1807. The manse, the house for the minister, lies to the north-east. The church and its manse lie in an elbow of flat land formed by the Water of Leith. This 'haugh' gave rise to the word 'Hailes', which, in turn, became the name of the ancient church on this site, and the little community that grew up around it. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
