Scope and Content East Port Calender Works, Dundee, Angus This works was rebuilt on the site of an early-mid 19th century calender works and spinning mill, for Low and Bonar. The new building has a reinforced-concrete frame. This view shows a hydraulic press packer, used to compress bales of jute cloth into the smallest possible space for economy in shipping. This one was made by Urquhart Lindsay, Dundee, in 1913, for the new works. This works was still operating in 1978, but the calenders were sold to Tunisian operators in the 1980s.
