Scope and Content East Port Calender Works, Dundee, Angus This works was rebuilt on the site of an early-mid 19th century calender works and spinning mill, for Low and Bonar. The new building has a reinforced-concrete frame. This view shows one of the large calenders in the works, used for subjecting jute cloth to pressure, by feeding it through loaded rollers. This closed up the texture of the cloth. The levers in front were used to vary the pressure on the rolls. This works was still operating in 1978, but the calenders were sold to Tunisian operators in the 1980s. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
