Scope and Content Fullwood Foundry, Hamilton, Lanarkshire The Fullwood Foundry Co Ltd was latterly owned by Colvilles Ltd and its successors, and supplied their iron castings. There were two foundries, a heeavy one at New Stevenston, and a light one at Hamilton. This view was taken when the foundry was being dismantled, and shows a sand slinger, a device to reduce the work involved in making a sand mould. It mixed sand with resin and then hurled it into the moulding box on top of the pattern. This foundry closed in 1978 as part of the British Steel Corporation's programme of eliminating open hearth steel making. This drastically reduced the demand for castings.
