Scope and Content Belford Bridge, Belford Road, Dean, Edinburgh Belford Bridge was built by the engineers Blyth and Cunningham in 1885-7 to carry Belford Road, part of the old road from Edinburgh to Queensferry, over the Water of Leith at the site of an old crossing at Bell's Mills. The bridge, with crenellations along the parapet, spans the river in one large stone arch between pilaster buttresses which carry the coat of arms of Edinburgh set into panels. A pleasant riverside walk to Dean Village runs under the bridge. This was the old route to Queensferry, known as the Old Queensferry Road, until 1887 when the old bridge, the three-arched Bell's Mills Bridge, was replaced, and the road and new bridge were named Belford Road and Belford Bridge respectively.
