Scope and Content View from west of Viewlands House, No 25 Viewlands Road, Perth Viewlands House was built c.1840. It is a two-storeyed, three-bayed villa with bay windows and a balustraded parapet adorned with lions on its façade. Since 1950 it was used as a training centre, and is now in use as a residential care home. This shows the rear of the villa. This side of the house is less visible than the façade, and is therefore not so ornamental, with its drainpipes and coal store. The tall chimney on the extension ensures a good draught to the fire below. This house was once the home of a wealthy Victorian family. An elaborate façade would be matched by an equally fine interior which would be maintained by servants. Its use as a training centre and care home reflects the changing role of such houses.
