Scope and Content View from east of Viewlands House, No 25 Viewlands Road, Perth Viewlands House is a large villa built c.1840. It is a two-storeyed, three bayed house of smooth ashlar masonry which is channelled at the ground floor. From 1950 it was a training centre for General Accident, and is now a residential care home. This shows the house with its bay and tripartite windows, with dormers in the roof. The side wall features an arched window in the gable. A scrolled parapet flanked by a pair of lions highlights the pedimented, Ionic columned porch below. This house was once the home of a wealthy Victorian family. The elaborate façade would be matched by an equally fine interior, maintained by servants. Its use as a training centre and residential care home reflects the changing role of such houses.
