Scope and Content Bucket mill, Forest of Birse, Aberdeenshire This mill is a water-powered mill for making wooden buckets, which were formerly used in dairying and in textile finishing. It was the last of its kind in Scotland, operating commercially into the 1960s. It was powered by a mid-breast paddle wheel. This view shows the mill from the north west. The L-plan building is constructed of vertically-boarded timber. with a corrugated-iron roof. The waterwheel is situated behind the right-hand wing. The mill is now in the care of a charitable trust, and has been extensively refurbished. It is now open to the public in the summer months. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
