Scope and Content Auchenlaich Chambered Cairn The area of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park contains a rich variety of archaeological sites and historic landscapes, which continue to have a major impact on the environment today. This Neolithic burial cairn lies beside the Keltie Water outside Callander, on the edge of a caravan site. It comprises a low grass-grown mound of stones, 322m long, in which can be seen the remains of two burial chambers. Chambered cairns belong to the Neolithic period (c.4000 - 2000 BC), when farming was first introduced to Scotland. They served as burial places for local communities.
