Scope and Content Railway bridge, Guthrie Castle, Angus This bridge was built over one of the main drives to Guthrie Castle by the Arbroath and Forfar Railway, and to compensate the owner. Guthrie of Guthrie, it was constructed in an ornamental style, incorporating a lodge. This view shows the bridge from the south, built in the castellate style popular at the time. Note the armorial panel above the Tudor arch. These are the arms of the Guthrie family, a very old Angus family. The bridge was in fact built by Guthrie of Guthrie with a sum of money from the railway company, after the lowest tender had proved excessive. The railway closed to all traffic in 1967.
