Scope and Content Part of drawing showing cross section through bridge-decking and under-bracing of Haughs of Drimmie Suspension Bridge, Perthshire The bridge at Haughs of Drimmie was built around 1830 and is one of a small group of wrought-iron framed bridges of suspension type. It was probably designed by John Justice (Junior) of Dundee, based on his father's bridge at Kirkton of Glenisla. The deck of the bridge is supported by stays connected to the pylons at each end, and by a system of under-bracing. This consists of two suspension rods slung between the abutments, joined to the deck by short struts. This drawing shows a cross section through the decking and under-bracing of the bridge. It shows the construction of the underside of the bridge, with tension ribs on struts to improve stability of the bridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
