Scope and Content Wade Bridge, Aberfeldy, Perthshire This bridge was built as part of the military road from Stirling to Dalnacardoch, which was made under the supervision of General Wade. This structure was designed by William Adam, and is the finest and most elaborate of all the military road bridges. This view shows the bridge from the south west. It is 91m long, and has a large central span with pairs of flanking arches. The size of the central span is emphasized by the raised parapets and obelisks. The bridge was built under the control of a master mason who was brought up from the north of England, as were the carpenters for the centring on which the arches were built. Wade saw this as a memorial to the whole programme of military road building. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
