Scope and Content Fishing station, Rispond, Highland This is a group of structures built from c1788 as a fishing station, mainly for salmon. There a pier and quay built of massive rubble blocks,, a two-storey and attic fish house, and two houses, one with wings designed as salmon-boiling houses. This view shows the complex from the north west, with the pier on the right and the fish house on the left. The dwelling houses are out of sight on the left. The trade in salmon from Scotland and London was an important one, but the preservation of the fish in transit was a problem. One expedient tried was partial boiling, in cast-iron pots, and this station was designed with this in mind. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
