Description Motherwell, Craigneuk Street, Anderson Boyes Heat Treatment (Dept. 12, west bay built 1945): Interior view from north east in west bay, showing two Thermic Preston small heating ovens, with quenching tanks (left). Behind the ovens is a gas generator producing clean endothermic gas required for the sealed heat treatment ovens. Heat treatment is required for the hardening of components of machines, such as gears (see rack in foreground).
