Scope and Content Moray House in the Canongate, Edinburgh Moray House was built in the elegant and spacious burgh of the Canongate around 1628. It passed into the hands of the Moray family and became known as one of the finest mansions of the Old Town. Moray House has been associated with a number of important political figures. Cromwell used it as his base on two occasions, Charles I visited, and the Union of the Parliaments is said to have been debated here and signed in a garden pavilion. Moray House was well-known for the fine gardens which lay behind the buildings. These have long since gone and it is today the home of Moray House College which is affiliated with the University of Edinburgh. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
