Scope and Content Garron Lodge, Garron Bridge, Inveraray estate, Argyll and Bute John, 5th Duke of Argyll (1723-1806), inherited Inveraray in 1770, and was responsible for much building on the policies and continuing the work of the 3rd Duke. The architect Robert Mylne (1733-1814) did a lot of work for the 5th Duke. This porter's lodge at Garron Bridge was designed by Mylne and built in 1783-4, although Mylne's plan was not fully executed. Above the rectangular windows of the south front there are two circular windows with black-painted ashlar surrounds. The gable is decorated with a small oval tablet, which may have been planned as an opening. Originally, Mylne had planned to decorate the gable with a moulded pediment, probably made of timber. The slated roofs date to the late 19th century. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
