Scope and Content Dundas House, St Andrew Square, Edinburgh Dundas House, occupying a prominent site on the east side of St Andrew Square, has been the headquarters of the Royal Bank of Scotland since 1825. The house was built in 1774 for the wealthy Sir Laurence Dundas. This elegant house, by Sir William Chambers, is set back within a forecourt and garden. Modelled on a Roman villa, it has four Corinthian pilasters framing the windows on the first and second floors, and a central pediment which rises above the roofline. In James Craig's plan of the New Town in 1767, St Andrew's Church occupies this site on the east side of the square, looking straight up George Street to a corresponding building, St. George's Church, on the west side of Charlotte Square.
