Scope and Content Caldercruix Paper Mill, Caldercruix, Lanarkshire This large paper mill was founded in 1848 by TR and G Craig. For many years it specialised in making blotting paper, until the widespread use of typewriters and ball-point pens almost eliminated demand for this product. This view shows the mill from the Airdrie to Bathgate Road. Looking east. Note the height off the chimney, and the power-station and associated gantry, to right and left of the chimney. This works was disused by the time this photograph was taken, and has since been demolished. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
