Scope and Content Sheepford Boiler Works, Locks Street, Coatdyke, Lanarkshire This works was founded by Thomas Hudson to make boilers and other products made of iron and steel plate. They developed as a speciality the making of perforated plates for use in separating pieces of coal or stone into different sizes. This view shows the forming of a dished plate in an oil-hydraulic press. The plate is being manipulated by hand, This was the most modern machine in the works at that time. This works closed in the early 1980s. Some of its machinery is now in the Summerlee Industrial Museum at Coatbridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
