Scope and Content Sheepford Boiler Works, Locks Street, Coatdyke, Lanarkshire This works was founded by Thomas Hudson to make boilers and other products made of iron and steel plate. They developed as a speciality the making of perforated plates for use in separating pieces of coal or stone into different sizes. This view shows a vertical lathe, being used to finish the top edge of a dished tank end ready for welding thi the plates forming the sides of the tank. This works closed in the early 1980s. Some of its machinery is now in the Summerlee Industrial Museum at Coatbridge. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
