Scope and Content Dingwall Railway Station - 1960s view of lattice-iron bridge Dingwall Railway Station was built for the Highland Railway by Murdoch Patterson in 1886. This is a view looking south with the former Strathpeffer Branch bay platform and waiting room on the right. A car can be seen travelling across the lattice-iron bridge. This is the Ferry Road bridge (since replaced). A locomotive (no. 44978) stands at the station. The sign on the front reads: 'RCTS SLS, Scottish Rail Tour, June 1962'. In the background is a footbridge just visible above the man walking on the 'six foot' space between tracks on the left of the locomotive . Dingwall, despite being the county town of Ross and Cromarty, remained small with little trade until its harbour was built in 1815-17. Connection to the rail network in 1862 fuelled further expansion. The town-centre was redeveloped in 1963. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
