Scope and Content Snade Mill, Dumfriesshire This is a two storey rubble building on an L-plan, with a double-pile range housing the mill, which has one pair of stones remaining. The mill was driven by a low-breast paddle wheel 1.14 by 4.88m, with its sluice controlled by a system of gearing. This view shows the geared mechanism for raising and lowering the sluice. This is probably a late 19th century modification, as before that time small bevel gears were not readily available. The geared sluice control here is probably unique.
