Snade Mill General view from SSW

SC 450616

Description Snade Mill General view from SSW

Date 29/8/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 450616

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Snade Mill, Dumfriesshire This is a two storey rubble building on an L-plan, with a double-pile range housing the mill, which has one pair of stones remaining. The mill was driven by a low-breast paddle wheel 1.14 by 4.88m, with its sluice controlled by a system of gearing. This view shows the mill from the road, with the granary and kiln on the left, and the double-pile mill range on the right. The wheel is on the far gable of the middle range. The geared sluice control here is probably unique. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
