Scope and Content Port Logan Harbour, Wigtownshire This harbour was built on the exposed west coast of the Rhinns largely at the expense of Col Andrew McDowall of Logan, to serve his estate. It originally consisted of a substantial l-plan pier, built of squared rubble, with a lighthouse at the end. This view shows the lighthouse, with its unusual stone lantern, presumably originally glazed. In the foreground is a granite pawl (bollard) used for mooring vessels. The stone lighthouse was added after the pier was built, and is beautifully constructed of ashlar. Indeed, the quality of the surviving masonry is generally first-class.
