Scope and Content Stannergate seaplane base, Dundee Luftwaffe aerial photograph of Stannergate seaplane base, Dundee, taken during World War II. The Stannergate seaplane base dates from 1914 and served during both World Wars until closure in 1944. The F-type hangar, dating from the 1920s, is all that remains of this site today. The German Luftwaffe took aerial photographs of parts of Scotland throughout World War II. The photographs were used for intelligence work, such as selecting targets, assessing bombing accuracy and finding equipment and defensive positions. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
