Scope and Content Girdleness Lighthouse, Aberdeenshire This lighthouse was designed by Robert Stevenson for the Northern Lighthouse Board. It has a tall circular-section tower, with corbelled galleries below lanterns at two levels. The keepers' houses and later engine room are flat-roofed. This view shows the foghorn from the south west. It was supplied with compressed air from the engine room beside the light tower. As with all the Northern Lighthouse Board's lights, this one has been converted to automatic operation. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
