Scope and Content Ballathie Viaduct, Cargill, Perthshire This viaduct was built as a five-span cast-iron arched structure for the Scottish Midland Junction Railway. It was rebuilt as a steel N-truss structure, using the original abutments and piers, by the Motherwell Bridge and Engineering Co. This view shows the viaduct from the south east. It crosses the river Tay on a skew. The viaduct closed in 1967, and has been retained as a footbridge, used by salmon fishers. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
