Scope and Content Fishing station, Port Vasgo, Sutherland This is a small beach-fishing station, probably exploiting a natural rift in the outcropping shore rocks to make a sheltered haven for small boats. At the head of the rift is a former cottage, and the ruins of other buildings. This view shows the former cottage and the other remains at the head of the beach. This could well be a 'clearance' settlement made to provide employment for people displaced from inland areas in Sutherland. Kelping may have been practised as well as fishing.
