Thurso Harbour and Castle View from SW

SC 438073

Description Thurso Harbour and Castle View from SW

Date 15/5/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 438073

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Thurso Harbour, Caithness This is a very simple river mouth harbour, with quays along both banks of the river Thurso, and short breakwater piers near the mouth of the river. The works are all built of local flagstone. This is a general view of the harbour looking north. The operating harbour was confined to the stretch of quay on the west bank seen here. Both the breakwater piers can be seen. The quays on the east bank seem to have been private, built for the pavement works and ship repairing. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
