Scope and Content Fishing station, Rockfield, Ross and Cromarty This is a small beach-fishing station on the east side of the Nigg peninsula, marginally improved by the construction of a low pier. This view shows the pier, constructed of ashlar in the manner of Thomas Telford. Note that the pier gives access to water deep enough to float a small boat at low tide. Rockfield is one of a series of such villages on the east side of the Nigg peninsula, probably built when agricultural improvement displaced people from the land. All probably originally fished for herring, which were then cured for export. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
