Scope and Content Double bridge, Calvine, Perthshire The railway part of this complex was opened by the Inverness & Perth Junction Railway in 1863. It was designed by Joseph Mitchell, with a short semicircular span over a river and a long segmental span over an existing road bridge. This view shows the double bridge from the west. The castellated style of the railway bridge is characteristic of Mitchell's designs for this line. The truss bridge in the background dates from the doubling of the line early this century. The double bridge was a noted feature of this railway despite its relatively modest scale. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
