Scope and Content Cardrona Viaduct/ Horseburgh Viaduct, Cardrona, Peebles-shire This viaduct was built by the North British Railway to carry its line from Peebles to Galashiels over the river Tweed. This view shows the five slightly bowed plate girder skew spans on masonry piers, which form the viaduct. The use of this method of construction gave a minimum of obstruction of the watercourse, to minimise the likelihood of flooding. This is one of the earliest viaducts of its type in Scotland.
