Description East Linton, Old Tyne Bridge View from S

Date 2/4/1974

Collection Papers of Professor John R Hume, economic and industrial historian, Glasgow, Scotland

Catalogue Number SC 424336

Category On-line Digital Images

Scope and Content Road bridge/Old Tyne Bridge, East Linton, East Lothian This bridge is said to be of 16th century date, but in style it is more like a bridge of the 17th century. This view shows the bridge from the north west. It is a two-span structure with segmental arches, ashlar arch ring and (later) parapet. The bases of the triangular cutwater and of the abutments have been widened to minimise scouring of the foundations. This bridge is on the old main road from Edinburgh to Berwick.
