Scope and Content Limekiln at Burdiehouse Limeworks, Edinburgh Burdiehouse was one of the largest of the limeworks of the Lothians, serving both the agricultural and building markets for lime. This view shows a rectangular double draw kiln. The draw-holes, from which the burnt lime was extracted, can be seen in this view. The kiln was loaded with limestone, from a quarry to the rear, and coal from a local coal mine. Materials were assembled on the bank to the right and fed into the top of the kiln.
