Scope and Content View of main front of Airds House, Argyll and Bute Airds House is a well-preserved Classical mansion which was built for Donald Campbell of Airds in 1738-9. The architect is unknown but the inspiration for its design may have been derived partly from the south front of Marble Hill House in Twickenham. Airds House has harled masonry with exposed green-grey sandstone surrounds and quoins which are rusticated, or cut in large blocks. The hipped roof is slated and the chimney stacks, which have moulded copings, were probably replaced in the 19th century. The advanced central bay of the main front has small windows with plain surrounds in its side walls, which admit light to the service stair. Few of the windows retain their original glazing bars.
