Scope and Content The driveway leading to the former Falcon Hall, Morningside Road, Morningside, Edinburgh Falcon Hall, designed c.1814 by Thomas Hamilton for Alexander Falconar, stood on the east side of Morningside Road within the Canaan estate. The building incorporated Morningside Lodge, an impressive house built in 1780 for Lord Provost William Coulter. The main entrance to the Hall was in Morningside Road, with a porter's lodge just inside the gates. A long driveway curved through wooded parkland to the house, which stood at the present-day junction of Falcon Court and Falcon Road West. Alexander Falconar, his wife and 14 children had an apparently opulent lifestyle. A colourful spectacle in the old Morningside village high street was the yellow horse-drawn carriage with two footmen which conveyed the five Falconar daughters into town.
