Scope and Content General view of Geanies House, Ross and Cromarty Geanies House was originally owned by MacLeod of Assynt, who built the present house in the early 18th century. Additions were carried out by his great-grandson c.1800. In 1826 Kenneth Murray bought the estate, and it remained in his family until 1982. This projecting bowed and crenellated wing of 1820-30 has a dining room on the ground floor. This may originally have been designed as a library or office, as it has an iron-doored safe in one corner. There is a drawing room on the first floor. Situated to the north (left) of the dining/drawing room is a service wing, probably added at the same time. This wing would have contained servants' sleeping quarters, as well as the kitchen serving the dining room. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
