Scope and Content Ball-and-spike finial on north tower, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. The roof of the octagonal north tower is capped by a ball-and-spike finial. The tower itself bears the date 1754 on its second-floor window. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
