Copy of RC 1827
Scope and Content South-west (coach) entrance, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. The date 1792 is displayed above the south-west (coach) entrance, an arch in the wall that connects the castle (right) with the west range of the courtyard steading. The tower on the left may have been part of the 16th-century defences. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
