Scope and Content Detail of fireplace arch, kitchen, ground floor, east wing, Foulis Castle, near Evanton, Highland Foulis Castle, in its present form, was built between 1740 and 1777 by the Munro family who had owned the land since the 13th century. Parts of its masonry contain sections of an earlier tower-house which existed by 1587. This part of the arch of one of the ground-floor kitchen's two fireplaces. The wedge-shaped stones, or voussoirs, have been numbered. Source: RCAHMS contribution to SCRAN.
